It’s been a busy end of 2017 and the start of 2018 wasn’t very eventful though quite busy too for my small business.
We went to eat ALL THE FOOD at a few of our favourite restaurants in Amsterdam for Christmas which helped ease the pain of EasyJet losing my luggage with all my clothes and gifts for my family in it. It’s amazing what a step back and a few days of rest and being cooked for can do for the mind and soul. I came back full and fully rejuvenated to take on 2018.
I can’t complain. Life in 2018 started with new orders for my spicy kecap manis and two big catering jobs. One for the consulate of Suriname in London which is pretty cool.
And because I enjoyed the supper clubs I did last year, I’ve decide to go monthly. You are invited to my home in London N4 where I will be cooking you a three course meal (read: a table filled with food) from 7pm-10pm, BYOB for £30 pp. Get in quick cause I only have a few spaces left. Reserve a seat in advance at hello at jessicavos.co.uk.
This month I am cooking dishes from the Javanese, Creole and Chinese kitchen, all adapted to Suriname and all dishes I grew up with, love and make from scratch:
Soto Ayam- fragrant Indonesian chicken soup. (Veg option available too)
Bami goreng- Indonesian noodles stir fried in homemade soy sauce (V)
My mother’s chicken- Chinese chicken marinated in homemade sweet and spicy marinade according to my mother’s recipe and served with wood ear mushroom
Bacalao- Creole salt fish in a spicy tomato sauce
Tempeh Goreng- Indonesian tempeh served in a sweet and spicy sauce (V)
Gado gado- Indonesian salad with peanut dressing (V)
Coconut rice- Creole rice boiled in coconut milk (V)
Homemade sambal- spicy chilli sauce (V)
Cucumber salad (V)
Pineapple upside down cake (V)
Looking forward to seeing you and come hungry!
